If the campaigns are any indication, the luxury handbag wars are an all-out battle for celebrity supremacy. Namely, Louis Vuitton went totally in tune with the times, enlisting Squid Game star HoYeon Jung for its recent Twist bag campaign, while Fendi got artful with a short film by Luca Guadagnino featuring featured British model Adwoa Aboah, to showcase her new ISeeUPetite Peekaboo. And Ferragamo may have just improved on them all by launching the all-new Cage Bag, which looks like an icon in the making, especially on the arm of Italian model Mariacarla Boscono.
But never a being left out, Donatella Versace actually makes an appearance in her own Spring 2022 campaign Versace The Medusa bags collection. Naturally, she also brought star power in the form of ethereal sisters. bella and Gigi Hadid. The still images were taken by venerable fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot — but it’s the accompanying short that keeps us rehearsing, just for the sheer pleasure of what’s happening on screen.
In this one, Emily Ratajkowski time-sharing with the Hadids (among others), and everyone seems to be having an absolute riot, striking poses, blowing bubbles, hula-hooping, jumping rope, playing peekaboo (don’t tell Fendi ), and just generally trying to do everything in our power to help us forget about all the grim news that’s been scrolling across our screens every day for god knows how long now.
Of course the A jellyfish the bags perfectly encapsulate the Versace stylistic ethic, finding the perfect balance between sassy and elegant opulence. Our only dilemma? How to possibly choose between the white and gold Medusa Bucket bag, and the turquoise Medium Tote?
