Simon Barlow may be trying to stir up trouble on screen, but the actor who plays him looked happier than ever when his girlfriend joined him on the red carpet. Alex Bain was among the soap opera stars in Manchester to see the latest musical appear in the city.
He joined his Corrie pals who were attending The Addams Family press night at the Opera House Theatre. And the group of famous faces got to see it before he walked off stage as soon as a number of future performances were cut due to the pandemic.
Alex, 20, was photographed walking into the room looking very different from his on-screen persona. His trademark dark locks were still intact with a mustache also making an appearance as he donned a white shirt, black jeans and a matching black denim jacket.

The actor, who grew up onscreen after joining Corrie as Peter Barlow’s son in 2008, posed alongside his stunning girlfriend, Mollie Lockwood. The teenager wore a black ensemble under a long camel coat as she carried a Louis Vuitton handbag. The beloved couple smiled for the cameras, each with a protective arm around each other.
Last year, 13 years after making his Simon debut, Alex was stuck in another big storyline when his character was drawn into the dark and murky world of drug gangs. Now on the other side, Simon’s past has come back to haunt him as his cousin Amy Barlow strikes up a relationship with Jacob Hay, the boy who befriended him to join the gang in the first place.
Earlier this week, Corrie fans saw Simon make an anonymous call to the police claiming he saw someone – Jacob – selling what he believed to be drugs on the street when in reality he was selling bottles of alcopops he had legally brought from Evelyn Plummer after she accidentally ordered too much for Dev Alahan’s shop.
Instead of finding Jacob, who ran quickly, the police found Summer Spellman collapsed in the Victoria Garden, looking drunk. Taken to the police station, things could have ended much worse for the teenager as PC Craig Tinker found her in the cell in a diabetic coma.
Things are very different off-screen as Jacob star Jack James Ryan also took to the theater alongside Alex, but he was joined by his sister, Rebecca Ryan, who left Corrie last month after three months playing the Bunny Bunny character, Lydia Chambers.
The couple looked glamorous for the evening with Rebecca still showing a holiday glow after recently spending time in Pollensa in Mallorca, Spain. The actress, who is also credited with playing Debbie Gallagher in Shameless and Gemma Dean in Casualty, looked stunning in a form-fitting silk dress, adorned with colorful flowers.
Rebecca paired the look with a pair of black boots and a leather jacket to ward off the Manchester chill. She smiled alongside her brother who looked a thousand miles away from Jacob in a smart white shirt, black pants and a pair of black suede shoes.
Jack was his older sister’s biggest cheerleader back when she co-starred on the famous cobbles and admitted to being ‘gutted’ when she left. He shared a sweet video last month of his older sister cheering on her last day of filming on the Salford-based soap set, as well as posting a TikTok video he made of them together at work and in the car going to the set.
There was another Corrie reunion at the Opera House as two recently departed cast members made an appearance. Kel Allen joined the group just weeks after his final scenes aired on the soap opera. Her character, Laura, died of cancer in heartbreaking scenes after taking Gary’s rap and saying she killed her husband Rick, the father of her daughter Kelly.
Also in attendance was Alexandra Mardell, who rolled off the famous street in the back of a taxi to start a new life in Australia with her new boyfriend Jon last month.
The Emma Brooker actress ditched her character’s bright outfits for a khaki green, all-in-one suit which she teamed with a dark blue denim jacket, a pair of fresh white converses and an orange bag Vivianne Westwood.
Tanisha Gorey, who plays Asha Alahan in Corrie, also went to the theater to catch a glimpse of the show, also posing outside the Opera House before heading inside.
