The most realistic European supercar on the market!

By now you know that Grasso’s Garage has really seen its fair share of vehicles this year, but just when you think you’ve seen it all, guess what comes up for a quick weekend tester? That’s right, the McLaren GT.

One of our favorite supercars in the industry, the GT, known for the Grand Tourer, really strikes you with its reality and ease of use. As we mentioned in our 2020 GT test, this car is designed for that C-level executive looking for extra speed or the empty nester who loves the extra attention.

With a top speed of 203 mph, 465 lb-ft. of torque and 612 horsepower, the GT has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine mated to a push-button seven-speed transmission and paddle shifters. Our time from zero to 60 was 3.1 seconds. As an option, our GT featured an $ 8,000 carbon-ceramic brake package, a $ 4,500 Serpentine Green paint option, and $ 15,000 in luxury accessories.

As the drool continued, the GT deserved nothing but the best in our weekend test, so heading for the Hudson Valley was on our scenic trip to Kingston, NY. Let’s just say it was an eye catcher and turned heads all weekend. It was nice to see so many thumbs up while driving too!

Now more on the GT and its realistic use. The ‘frunk’ shorts for the front trunk offer a large size for storage similar to that of the mid-engined Corvette, while the rear hatch offers limited storage space for luggage and / or the golf bag, keeping in mind that this compartment is above the engine. Bright cabin lighting and cellphone-like layout for the infotainment system were exceptionally easy to navigate and use. The seats were sleek and very comfortable for the overall cabin size.

As we tested through mountains and winding roads, we noticed that the GT was super smooth and had that gentle hum of most foreign mid-engined cars. It easily stuck to the road while accelerating quickly to excessive speeds. The suspension was really smooth and certainly a great premium car option for the everyday driver, but an even better weekend cruiser.

Producing cars in Surrey, England, McLaren offers some of the best mid-engined supercars in the industry and rivals others like the Acura NSX. In comparison, we recognize a lot of similarities between the two, but McLaren’s rarity on the road easily sets it apart. Let’s not overlook Chevrolet, either, the new mid-engine Corvette design with its advertised price of less than $ 60,000, but a big markup makes it a serious contender for budget car enthusiasts. But with 30 exterior color options and three interior leather configurations, the GT is specially designed for those seeking exclusivity. I doubt you’d ever see another on the road in this color scheme, especially with the low production numbers McLaren makes every year. McLaren produces cars from $ 184,900 with its 540C up to the $ 2.2 million Speedtail.

Executives and couples who want to go fast and look good while doing so can certainly be the talk of the town with the GT. In today’s world, following the Joneses seems like a priority and what better car to do it than the McLaren GT?
