San Antonio gets its first standalone Gucci store amid ‘luxury sales boom’

Luxury-loving locals will soon be able to shop Gucci’s high-end clothing inventory without having to travel outside of San Antonio. The company confirms to MySA that The Shops at La Cantera will soon house a Gucci boutique.

The $1.5 million project is in its early stages, but a representative for the brand told MySA that Gucci is considering an early fall opening. Gucci was unable to divulge further details. Brookfield Properties, the parent company of the outdoor mall, was not immediately available to comment on the new tenant. It is unclear in which part of the mall the Gucci store will open.

La Cantera’s current luxury retailer boutiques include Carolina Herrera, Golden Goose, Louis Vuitton, and more. Chanel is also planning its first beauty and perfume boutique in boutiques.

Gucci’s previous presence in the San Antonio market included a selection of accessories inside Saks at the North Star Mall. San Marcos Prime Outlets also has a Gucci store. The La Cantera slice is expected to be a nearly 5,000 square foot store, according to documents filed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations. The project has a construction schedule of April 18, 2022 to September 9, 2022.

Austin’s first Gucci store recently opened in The Domain, a shopping and retail area comparable to the La Cantera and Rim area, according to Austin Culture Map.

Parent company Kering, which also owns luxury retailers like Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga, shared plans for expansion amid a “luxury sales boom” with Reuters in February. This growth has opened up acquisition opportunities in cities Kering considers second and third tier like Nashville, Austin and Atlanta.

“We are reviewing our geographic store coverage to cover those areas that are new to us,” Kering CEO Francois-Henri Pinault told Reuters.
